Silkwood screenwriter Alice Arlen dies

Silkwood screenwriter Alice Arlen has died, aged 75.
The veteran scribe passed away at her New York City home on Monday night (29Feb16) following a long illness, her husband, Michael J. Arlen, tells The New York Times.
Arlen is best known for her work on director Mike Nichols’ 1983 drama Silkwood, starring Meryl Streep, Kurt Russell and Cher. The project was her first collaboration with acclaimed screenwriter Nora Ephron, and their script earned the duo an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
She and Ephron joined forces once again to co-write 1989 comedy Cookie, starring Peter Falk.
Arlen also penned scripts for director Kathryn Bigelow’s The Weight of Water and romantic dramedy Then She Found Me, actress Helen Hunt’s directorial debut.
