Singer Returning to ‘X-Men’ Franchise with ‘First Class’?

Bryan Singer shook things up at the Avatar premiere in L.A. Wednesday night when he announced he will return to the X-Men franchise and direct X-Men: First Class.

In a video interview, Singer said, “I just yesterday signed a deal to do an X-Men: First Class origins picture, which is kind of cool. I’m very excited.”

Singer directed the first two X-Men films. The third, X-Men: The Last Stand, was helmed by Brett Ratner.

SlashFilm points out that Singer’s involvement isn’t entirely a surprise since he talked about returning to the franchise as recently as October. “I’m still looking to possibly return to the X-Men franchise. I’ve been talking to Fox about it. I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast,” he said then.

He’s also said he was considering directing First Class.

According to /Film, producer Lauren Shuler Donner has said the movie focuses on the first class at Xavier’s school and that only those mutants would be featured.

Singer also said last night that he was in the process of prepping Jack the Giant Killer at Warner Bros.
