Spider-Man Musical Starts In December

ALTThe oft-delayed Spider-Man musical, Spider-Man Turn Of The Dark, is finally coming to theaters. Julie Taymor’s adaptation of the web-slinging hero will begin preview performances on November 14th and will open on December 21st at Foxwoods theater.

The superpowered musical, with music from U2 members Bono and The Edge, was originally scheduled to open this February, starring Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming. Complications with with the notoriously expensive show, which may cost an unprecedented $50 million to stage, pushed the project back and forced a change in casting. Next To Normal’s Jennifer Damiano will play Peter Parker’s sweetheart Mary Jane, while Patrick Page of The Lion King replaces Cumming as the villainous Green Goblin. Rocker and actor Reeve Carney will play the titular hero.

Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark will finally swing into theaters just in time for the release of Taymor’s latest film, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest starring Helen Mirren, on December 10th.
