Still Alice director Richard Glatzer dies

Still Alice co-director Richard Glatzer has died following a long battle with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Glatzer, who was diagnosed with the neurological disease in 2011, passed away on Tuesday (10Mar15), aged 63, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
News of his death comes less than three weeks after his latest leading lady, Julianne Moore, picked up her first Best Actress Oscar for her role as a family matriarch with Alzheimer’s disease.
Glatzer and his filmmaking and life partner Wash Westmoreland were unable to attend the annual prizegiving to celebrate with Moore, because he was hospitalised after suffering severe respiratory problems just one week before the Academy Awards.
Westmoreland wrote on his Facebook page that Glatzer went into cardiac arrest and was “legally dead for 15 minutes”, but he recovered and insisted Glatzer was slowly getting better.
Glatzer and Westmoreland, who met in 1995 and wed in 2013, first teamed up to co-direct 2001 film The Fluffer. The duo later joined forces on 2006’s Quinceanera, documentary Pedro, and Errol Flynn biopic The Last of Robin Hood.
Glatzer also made his mark on the small screen, serving as a producer on reality TV shows Divorce Court, The Osbournes and America’s Next Top Model, among others.
His only solo film credit was 1993’s independent comedy/drama Grief.
Glatzer is survived by Westmoreland and daughter Ruby Smith.
