There will always be a special place in Hollywood for thinly veiled movies about contemporary scandals. Tower Heist has Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy, who we too often forget have both given us some cinematic gold, leading an ensemble cast in this screwball comedy about sticking it to the man…whatever that has come to mean. Josh Kovacs (Stiller) is a security guard at a luxury condominium whose billionaire boss (Alan Alda) has robbed him and his fellow employees of their retirement funds. Combining the staff’s (Tea Leoni, Matthew Broderick, Gabourey Sidibe, Michael Peña) unparalleled familiarity with the building, Kovacs’ old classmate’s (Murphy) penchant for petty theft, and Casey Affleck’s experience with heist movies, the team set out to rob from the rich and give to the poor. That is, themselves. But it was theirs anyway, so they’re still the good guys.
