‘Super Troopers 2’ Will Reportedly Begin Production Soon

Super TroopersFox Searchlight Pictures

It’s officially happening: Super Troopers 2 is a go. Super Troopers 2  is a go! (Alright, enough with “The Repeater.”) After 11 long years, Broken Lizard’s comedy classic will get the long-awaited sequel it deserves. Whereas the idea of a second film often makes fans cringe at the thought of their baby being tarnished, Super Troopers  fanatics seem to be overwhelmingly in favor of more. It just feels right that there should be a sequel.

The comedy troupe (Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske) have been vocal about a follow-up movie for years, even letting slip that a script was in the works as far back as 2009. But in July, Heffernan (Farva) and Lemme (Mac) announced on a local Portland, OR radio show that the script was finalized, Fox had signed off on the deal and production would start this year. Somehow this gem slipped by the majority of movie news outlets until recently. But what really matters is that it is happening.

Apparently legal disputes over money allocation on the first film made it impossible to make a sequel for several years, but that has been resolved.

As far as the plot of the sequel, there is nothing but rumor, but chances are it will not disappoint. The fact that they didn’t ride the wave of success of the first film and push out a sequel right away makes it seem all the more promising that Super Troopers 2  will deliver.
