Sylvester McCoy blasts female Doctor Who idea

Former DOCTOR WHO star SYLVESTER MCCOY has dismissed suggestions that the Time Lord could one day be played by a woman.
The Scottish actor, who tackled the iconic role between 1987 and 1989, is adamant a female Doctor Who would spoil the relationship between the traditionally female assistant and the doctor.
McCoy insists his comments are not sexist, and points out he just cannot see the point in changing the character’s gender.
He tells Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper, “I’m a feminist and recognise there is still a glass ceiling in place for many women but where would we draw the line?…
“I’m sorry but no – Doctor Who is a male character, just like James Bond. If they changed it to be politically correct then it would ruin the dynamics between the doctor and the assistant. I support feminism, but I’m not convinced by the cultural need of a female Doctor Who.”
