T2 Trainspotting wins top prizes at BAFTA Scotland Awards

Danny Boyle’s movie T2 Trainspotting won big at the BAFTA Scotland Awards on Sunday night (05Nov17), scooping three top accolades.
In January, the sequel to the 1996 cult classic was released, with Danny Boyle back behind the camera, directing returning faces Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Ewen Bremner, and Jonny Lee Miller.
The sequel was a commercial and critical hit, and it continued its success by receiving three prizes from the Scottish branch of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in Glasgow on Sunday night.
It was awarded the Feature Film prize, while Boyle received the best director accolade and Bremner beat his co-stars to the Actor Film prize.
“If you’re seeing this, it means we won apparently, which is amazing. Thank you, that’s incredible,” Boyle said in a video message from New York. “I’m so sorry I can’t be there in person, I’m at the historic Carnegie Hall in New York where I agreed to direct a fundraiser for the charity Dramatic Need. I had agreed (to do it) long before T2 started shooting.
“Thank you to everybody who went to see the movie, the Scottish identity of the film and its predecessor was everything to us in making the show,” he continued, before reeling off specific people to thank as well as workers at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh’s intensive care unit for caring for their production designer Mark Tildesley, who “nearly lost everything” during the shoot until they saved him.
During the ceremony, Armando Iannucci, the creator of political comedy shows Veep and The Thick Of It, was presented with Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television prize.
The Actress Film Award went to Deirdre Mullins for The Dark Mile, while former Breaking Bad star Laura Fraser scooped the Actress Television prize for The Missing, and Mark Bonnar picked up the male equivalent for TV show Unforgotten.
