Box-office traffic for Rush Hour 2 was even heavier than New Line’s Sunday estimates, with the film earning more than $67.4 million (versus the $66.8 million that the studio had predicted), a record for August. On the other hand, final results for Planet of the Apes were down $1 million from 20th Century Fox’s estimate, as it wound up with $27.5 million. Oddly, Rush Hour failed to make a big impression in Canada, where it took in C3.7 million, well behind Planet of the Apes‘ C$6-million opening last week.
