Taken director Pierre Morel has lined up his next film Overdrive with I Am Number Four’s Alex Pettyfer and Watchmen’s Matthew Goode (he was also in Leap Year but the less said about that the better). An action thriller about car thieves in France with a healthy dose of comedy, it’s being described as a combination of Point Break and The Hangover, which gives me all kinds of headaches. Why no one dared to compare it to Gone in 60 Seconds is still beyond me.
Colombian director Antonio Negret, who just wrapped the Joel Silver-produced thriller Transit, is helming the $29 million flick, and with two competent action filmmakers, two pretty boys in exotic locales with fast cars the film will basically be able to print money.
