Tales of Hoffmann | 1951
Jacques Offenbach's 1881 opera, which was based on three stories by the late 18th-early 19th century German author E.T.A. Hoffmann is performed. Hoffman is portrayed as himself in the story, as he recounts three tragic love stories to the patrons in a tavern. The stories revolve around a lovely automaton, the ailing daughter of a domineering composer and a scheming courtesan, each involved in a doomed romance.
