Argentine musician Leopoldo Federico has died, aged 87. The bandoneon player, who was known for mastering the music of his native country’s tango, joined Ruben Blades for his Grammy Award-nominated album Tangos.
Federico also performed with Astor Piazzolla and led his own 12-piece orchestra for more than 50 years, according to Billboard.com.
He was honoured with a Distinguished Citizen of Buenos Aires medal.
Federico passed away in Buenos Aires on 28 December (14).
