Terminally ill Blowfly enters hospice care

R&B singer Blowfly has entered into hospice care in Florida as he prepares to succumb to terminal cancer.
The musician, real name Clarence Reid, is suffering from liver cancer and multiple organ failure and his drummer, Tom Bowker, has taken to Facebook.com to update followers on the 76-year-old’s condition, revealing Reid is preparing to release a final album to show appreciation to his fans for helping him through his struggles.
“Thank you so much to everyone who saved his house in 2014 and kept his last days comfortable,” Bowker writes. “As a reward for that good deed, Blowfly has gifted us a final album, entitled 77 Rusty Trombones which comes out in February (16). It is easily his best album since the early 80s, and a fitting epitaph for one of the great performers of all time.”
“It has been an honor to reintroduce Blowfly (and Clarence) to the world via recordings, movies and the stage over the last dozen years…,” he continues. “Thank you for supporting our efforts.”
“Please know that Clarence is being made comfortable and that his sister Virginia has stood tall for him, and taken care of her brother as best as humanly possible,” he adds. “Please say a prayer for her and for Clarence Reid, the Maestro of the Miami Sound who loved being Blowfly – the King of the Freaks.”
