The “Apes” hunt is on

To promote its upcoming Planet of the Apes reinterpretation, 20th Century Fox has launched a worldwide scavenger hunt challenging players to find hidden caches of Apes memorabilia. Participation in Project A.P.E. (Alternative Primate Evolution) appears limited to techies: the online hunt requires the use of a Global Positioning Satellite unit, which is now available to the public at $100 a pop, according to Variety. Players try to locate and retrieve the cache by using their GPS units and coordinates posted every Friday at www.planetoftheapes.com. The cache contains a movie prop, a camera and a logbook. Fox plans to hide caches in 13 locations–eight in the United States and five internationally. The first cache was found in San Francisco.
