The Aurora Encounter | 1986
An eccentric 19th century Texan claims to have been visited nightly by an alien from space. The local newspaper editor writes up the story, and reports the sightings to the governor. The Governor expresses his disbelief, but sends a ranger to investigate, with orders to shoot any aliens if he does see them. The alien is in fact a friendly one, and rescues three local citizens when a mine caves. After this, the townspeople try to communicate their peaceful intentions toward him, but the ranger's intent is in conflict with them.
