‘The Bridges of Madison County’ Author Robert James Waller Dead at 77

Robert James Waller, the author of bestseller The Bridges Of Madison County, has died, aged 77.
Waller passed away at his home in Texas on Friday morning (10Mar17).

His most famous 1992 novel, about an Iowa housewife’s romance with a photographer, was turned into a beloved 1995 movie, starring Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood, and a 2014 Broadway musical.

His book, which was translated into 40 languages, turned Madison County, Iowa, into an international tourist attraction.

The author grew up in the state but moved to Texas shortly after the success of his book.

Waller reportedly wrote The Bridges of Madison County in just 11 days and it shot to number one on The New York Times bestseller list.

He wrote a sequel, called A Thousand County Roads – An Epilogue to The Bridges of Madison County.
