The Child Prodigy | 2010
A portrait of an extraordinarily gifted Canadian musical prodigy whose meteoric rise to fame in the 1930s was paralleled by a long, slow slide into depression and dissolution. At the age of six, child prodigy Andre Mathieu had already captivated critics and audiences alike with his mastery of the piano and his audacious composing skills, which astonished people who flocked to his concerts from New York to London to Paris. Trained by his piano teacher father and doted on by his overbearing mother, young Andre seemed to have everything going for him. But, the curse of a fame may have been too fast in coming for a boy whose emotional development could not possibly have kept pace with his musical renown.
