The Club leads nominations for Cinema Tropical Awards

Oscars hopeful The Club has landed top nominations including Best Feature Film at the 2016 Cinema Tropical Awards.
The drama, centred on four retired Catholic priests forced to divulge their sins during a stay in a secluded house, will compete for Best Feature Film alongside Jauja, Los Hongos, The Princess of France and White Out, Black In.
Filmmaker Pablo Larrain also scored the film’s second nomination for Best Director, as he goes up against Nicolas Pereda (The Absent), Gabriel Mascaro (August Winds), Laura Amelia Guzman and Israel Cardenas (Sand Dollars), and Paz Fabrega (Viaje).
The Club has already garnered critical acclaim after winning the Jury Grand Prix at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year (15), and was selected as the Chilean entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at next year’s (16) Oscars.
The Best U.S. Latino Film will be a fight between The Book of Life, East Side Sushi, Mala Mala, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, and We Like It Like That, while Best Documentary Film nods went to A Committee Chronicle, Identification Photos, Invasion, Last Conversations and Monte Adentro.
The winners of the Cinema Tropical Awards, which honours the best Latin American films of the year, will be announced during a ceremony in New York on 20 January (16).
