The Encounter | 2014
Sinan and Mahmut meet at group therapy sessions. Sinan, an architect, holds himself responsible for the death of his son in a motorcycle accident. Mahmut runs an illegal gambling casino and is deeply involved in the underworld. He suffers the consequences of a crime committed when he was young and he is now depressed and seriously considering suicide. When he gets news about a person he had long been seeking, he immediately leaves Istanbul. Sinan senses that the person Mahmut is looking for is a young woman whose photograph he had seen. A short while later, news arrives that Mahmut has been killed. It is a case of homicide and there are no suspects. Sinan decides to investigate. He travels to the island where his friend was murdered. But the truth is evasive. Instead, he first meets a young man who bears a striking resemblance to his dead son, and then the woman he had seen in the photograph. For Sinan, walking the fine line between life and death, the island has brought the promise of a new life.
