George Christy, who since April has been on a paid suspension from the
Hollywood Reporter where he worked as its gossip columnist for 26
years, quit the trade paper Wednesday, its rival, Daily Variety,
reported today.
The Reporter‘s labor writer, David
Robb, touched off an upheaval at the usually staid publication in April
when he resigned in protest against publisher Robert Dowling’s decision
to spike a story that he had written accusing Christy of accepting favors
from movie producers and others in exchange for mentions in his column.
Shortly afterwards, then-editor Anita Busch resigned to protest Dowling’s
handling of the matter.
From the beginning, Christy has denied Robb’s
charges.
