The Girl On The Train derails Bridget Jones at U.K. box office

The Girl On The Train has steamed to the top of the U.K. box office chart.
The psychological thriller, in which Emily Blunt plays an alcoholic divorcee trying to solve a murder she may be responsible for, took the fast track past its competition last weekend (07-09Oct16).
Based on Paula Hawkins’ novel, and also starring Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett and Justin Theroux, The Girl on The Train made $8.46 million (£6.95 million) on its debut in British cinemas.
The film also raced to the top of the North American box office on Sunday (09Oct16) with earnings of $24.7 million (£20.28 million).
Derailed from top spot after three weekends at number one is Bridget Jones’s Baby, while Tim Burton’s quirky kids’ caper, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is third with $2.7 million (£2.22 million).
Real-life oil rig disaster movie Deepwater Horizon and epic Western remake The Magnificent Seven round out the new top five.
