The Hateful Eight fails to topple Star Wars sequel

Quentin Tarantino’s Western The Hateful Eight failed to knock Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens from the top of the U.K. box office chart over the weekend (08-10Jan16).
The sci-fi adventure, starring Daisy Ridley and Harrison Ford, has topped the all time box office chart in North America and is on course to achieve the same feat in the U.K. as it continues to rake in the cash in its fourth week.
The film earned $9 million (£6 million) this weekend, followed by Tarantino’s latest movie, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Jennifer Jason Leigh, which debuted at two with $4.2 million (£2.8 million).
Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s comedy Daddy’s Home dropped to third with $3.5 million (£2.3 million) and Eddie Redmayne’s drama The Danish Girl dropped one place to fourth with $2 million (£1.3 million).
Joy, starring Jennifer Lawrence, fell from three to five with takings of $1.5 million (£1 million).
