‘The Insider’ Looking Golden

Yet another awards ceremony honoring the same people and the same films were held this past weekend — this time by the International Press Academy for its fourth annual Golden Satellite Awards.

Among the winners were some of the award circuit’s established favorites including “The Insider“, which took top honors as best dramatic film. Its helmer, Michael Mann, was named best director. Previous best-film laurels for “The Insider” came from the likes of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the Broadcast Film Critics Association.

Spike Jonze‘s first feature “Being John Malkovich” was named best comedy or musical, with the film’s show-stealing co-star (and New York Film Critics Circle winner) Catherine Keener taking the award for best supporting actress.

Boys Don’t Cry” actress Hilary Swank continued her winning streak with the Golden Satellite’s best dramatic actress award for her turn as a doomed transgendered person. Co-star Chloe Sevigny, who plays the unsuspecting girlfriend opposite Swank, won the award for best supporting actress.

And for a twist, an under-recognized film (“The Limey“) won something, too. Star Terrence Stamp was named best drama actor for his role as the vengeful tough guy.

EDITORS CAN GIVE OUT AWARDS, TOO: The American Cinema Editors announced their nominations for the best edited films in 1999 on Sunday.

In the drama category, the nominees are: “American Beauty,” “The Insider,” “The Matrix,” “The Sixth Sense,” and “The Talented Mr. Ripley“.

Up for best-edited comedy: “Analyze This“, “Being John Malkovich“, “Election,” “Man on the Moon,” “Run Lola Run“.

Winners will be honored at the ACE Eddie Awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton on Feb. 27.
