If you’ve ever attended a sports game, you know they normally honor the men and women of the military during halftime, but what is their story?
In Director Ang Lee‘s ‘Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk’ we find out the story for a young person in the military. The finale for a “Victory Tour”, where members of the military are paraded around in thanks for their service, took place in 2004 during the Thanksgiving game for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. Billy Lynn (newcomer Joe Alwyn) was honored with musical guest Destiny’s Child. While the entire world was probably more excited to see Beyonce’s group perform, it was a huge moment for Billy. This victory tour was different than most victory tours, the military on this tour were not relieved of their active duty and would have to return to Iraq right after.
Billy Lynn took the time during this halftime to think about Sergeant Shroom (Vin Diesel), spend time with his sister (Kristen Stewart), spend some time with a Dallas Cowboy’s Cheerleader in a different way, and to find some slight comfort between returning to war.
‘Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk’ releases November 11, 2016.
