Following the Iranian revolution in 1979, rare-gem dealer Isaac Amin is arrested and falsely charged with being a spy. His frightened and shaken family must navigate a new world with the collapse of everything they've known. As Isaac endures prison, forging shaky relationships for survival, his wife feverishly searches for him while harboring a suspicion that their housekeeper has turned on them and is acting as a secret informer for the government. And as their daughter engages in illicit activities, their son struggles to settle into his new life in New York as he realizes that his family may soon be forced to embark on a dangerous voyage.
