The Sisters Brothers tops nominations for France’s Lumiere Awards

Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly’s new western The Sisters Brothers will be a quadruple threat at the 2019 Lumiere Awards in France after landing four nominations.
The film adaptation of Patrick deWitt’s acclaimed 2011 novel stars the actors as brothers Charlie and Eli Sisters, who are hired to kill a prospector during the California Gold Rush.
The project, which also features Jake Gyllenhaal, is up for Best Film, alongside In Safe Hands, Amanda, Mademoiselle de Jonquieres, and Guy, while it has earned Jacques Audiard a mention for Best Director, an accolade for which he will compete against Gaspar Noe (Climax), Jeanne Herry (In Safe Hands), Pierre Salvadori (The Trouble With You), and Xavier Legrand (Custody).
The Sisters Brothers is also recognised in the Best Music category for Alexandre Desplat, as Beniot Debie is shortlisted twice for Best Cinematography – he is also nominated for his work on Climax.
Meanwhile, the Best Actor title will be a battle between Alex Lutz (Guy), Vincent Lindon (At War), Denis Menochet (Custody), Romain Duris (Our Struggles), and Vincent Lacoste (Amanda), and Cecile de France (Mademoiselle de Joncquieres), Elodie Bouchez (In Safe Hands), Lea Drucker (Custody), Melanie Thierry (Memoir of War), and Virginie Efira (An Impossible Love) are in the race for the Best Actress honour.
The Lumiere Awards, which are decided by members of the foreign press academy, similar to the Golden Globes, will take place in Paris on 4 February (19).
