The Weekend wins trio of trophies as he rehearses for the Juno Awards

The Weeknd will go into Sunday night’s (03Apr16) Juno Awards in Canada a big winner after picking up three trophies as he rehearsed for the show.
The Hills singer was a triple threat at the 2016 Juno Gala Dinner & Awards in Calgary on Saturday night (02Apr16), claiming early prizes for Artist and Songwriter of the Year and R&B/soul recording for his album Beauty Behind the Madness.
Thirty-five of the 41 Juno awards, which recognise the best of Canadian music, were announced at the industry gala, where music veteran and 2015 Polaris Prize winner Buffy Sainte-Marie scored two honours for Aboriginal Album and Contemporary Roots Album.
Justin Bieber and Drake were also winners on Saturday night – Bieber’s Purpose landed him the Pop Album prize, while Drake took home the Best Rap Recording for his If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late release.
Death From Above 1979 (Best Rock Album), Pomo (Best Electronic Album), Whitehorse (Best Alternative Album), and Johnny Reid (Adult Contemporary Album) were also winners at the gala, as were Emilie-Claire Barlow (Vocal Jazz Album), Colin Stetson and Sarah Neufeld (Best Instrumental Album), Harrison Kennedy (Best Blues Album), and Keys N Krates (Best Dance Recording, while British singer Adele’s 25 earned her the Best International Album prize.
Arcade Fire were also honoured with the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award for the work the bandmates have done to help aid the people of Haiti in recent years.
Six more awards will be given out on the televised broadcast of The 2016 Juno Awards live from the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes, and Bryan Adams are among the stars billed to perform.
