If you’re a fan of Broadway and The Wizard of Oz, then you’ve probably ventured to the theater or at least heard of the Broadway sensation, Wicked. Before, Lin-Manuel Miranda came storming on to the stage with Hamilton, Wicked was truly the talk of the town in the world of theater. It became the fastest musical in history to reach $1 billion dollars in revenue. Though the musical has been capturing our hearts and imaginations since 2003, many had hope it would receive the silver screen treatment in order to reach an even larger audience. Well, the wait is over.
Universal Pictures has finally given their film adaptation of the Tony-award winning musical a release date. Wicked will be bringing the Witches of Oz back into all of our lives on December 20, 2019. We know that seems light-years away from now, but it’s really just around the corner.
Though no casting information has been made available as of yet, we are all crossing our fingers in hopes that the sensational and talented Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth will be reprising their roles as Elphaba and Glinda respectively. We also know that Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry will be taking the reigns on this project.
“Thank Goodness” for such amazing news!
