‘The World’s End': Watch Edgar Wright Talk the End of the Cornetto Trilogy and Why All Pubs Are the Same

Director Edgar Wright is a genre mixmaster. His latest movie, The World’s End, with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, and Eddie Marsan as boyhood chums who reunite to go on an epic pub crawl in their hometown, is part mid-life crisis movie, part bromance, and part robot apocalypse. In the above interview with Hollywood.com, Wright talks about how The World’s End was conceived as the capper to the unofficial trilogy started by Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. He also describes how he injects a little bit of social commentary alongside his belly laughs, including how the Invasion of the Body Snatchers-style robot takeover in the movie is an allegory for the increasing homogeneity of society and how English pub life has become steadily more corporate and family-friendly. Editor/Interactive Content Director Christian Blauvelt is Hollywood.com’s expert for all things geek. Can’t tell the difference between a Kowakian monkey lizard and a Krayt dragon? Don’t know whether to order a raktajino or a Romulan Ale from your Ferengi barman? He’s your geek! This knowledge was acquired over many years of rigorous training during his youth on the swamp planet St. Petersburg, FL. Think of him like Channing Tatum in Magic Mike but with entertainment journalism in place of the custom furniture ambitions and minus the washboard abs. A stint on the ice planet Hoth (Northwestern University) finally led to him coming to Coruscant (New York City), where he helps share his knowledge with you all. He will desperately try to avoid puns like, "Set phasers for phun!"
