‘The Dark Phoenix’ saga is one of the coolest in comic books, and luckily, we will still see it play out in the McAvoy X-Men series. Sure we saw it in the original with X-Men the last stand, but that wasn’t the proper version, the directors wanted to tell their version of it. After the events of ‘Days of Future Past’ wiped out the original, that never happened and they have the opportunity to do justice to the saga.
For those unfamiliar, Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) has similar powers to Professor X (James McAvoy), they can read minds. Jean originally came to Xavier mansion after she accidentally kills her family. To protect her, Xavier hides her memories. Well Jean and the X-Men go to space and a solar flare erupts, those hidden memories come out and the Phoenix is unleashed. Under the impression of Smith (Jessica Chastain) she allows this change. Shes all rage bent on destruction, Magneto (Michael Fassbender) uses that to his advantage, and it’s up to Xavier, Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and the rest of the X-Men to defeat this powerful mutant that was their friend.
‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ releases February 14, 2019.
