These 20 Hollywood movies have the most award nominations like, ever

awardsimageWith the 2021 Oscars just around the corner, we got nostalgic about all of the Hollywood movies that have been nominated for notable awards over the years. According to a survey conducted by USDish (an authorized reseller of Dish), 46% of people are more likely to watch a film if it has been nominated for an award.

What awards are considered in this list and how did they figure it out?!

Making a list called “Most Award-Nominated Films of All Time” is a pretty lofty undertaking. Awards considered for the list include five major organizations: the Oscars, Golden Globes, BAFTA, Critics’ Choice Awards, and the SAG Awards. Researches looked at nearly 60,000 data points for films up to the year 2019.

7 interesting data points for movie buffs

  1. Actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Emma Stone are each in 3 of the 20 movies listed.
  2. The oldest film on the list is The English Patient (1994) while the newest is Mank (2020).
  3. 85% of the films on the list were made in the 2000s, and 60% were made in the 2010s.
  4. Tom Hooper directed two films that made it to the top 20: Les Misérables (2012) and The King’s Speech (2010).
  5. Mank (2020) is the first Netflix and streaming service film to make the list.
  6. La La Land (2016) won 58% of the awards it was nominated for, making it the film that won the highest percentage of awards. Pretty impressive!
  7. On average, movies win 35% of nominations…so about 1 in 3. Not too shabby!

#20: Mank (2020)

The Netflix film Mank is #20 on the list, receiving 35 award nominations across all five major awards programs. Starring Gary Oldman, Amanda Seyfried, and Charles Dance, Mank takes you to 1930s Hollywood through the eyes of screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz. We’ll see what percent of awards this streaming movie wins at the end of the 2021 awards season.

#19: The Hours (2002)

#18: Les Misérables (2012)

Quentin Tarantino’s comedy-drama set in Hollywood with a star-studded cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie dazzled during awards season, winning two Golden Globes, two Critics’ Choice awards, one SAG award, one BAFTA, and two Oscars out of 37 total nominations.

At the top of the list and reigning supreme for the most major award nominations is The King’s Speech. The film starring Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter won one Golden Globe, one Critics’ Choice award, two SAG awards, seven BAFTAs, and four Oscars with 45 total nominations.
