The 1990 miniseries It, based on Stephen King‘s novel of the same name probably gave many people nightmares for weeks. The creepy Pennywise was terrifying for anyone who hates clowns and for everyone else as well because he can transform into any nightmare. But what exactly went into making the horror story? Here are ten things you never knew about IT.
1. Pennywise the clown is in multiple Stephen King novels.
The character is either seen or referred to in The Tommyknockers, Dreamcatcher, Gray Matter, 11/22/63 and Insomnia.
2. The sewer building pump house is the old Buntzen Lake Hydro Plant in Canada.
3. It took three hours to do Tim Curry‘s makeup to turn him into Pennywise.
4. Bill Skarsgård who will play Pennywise in the upcoming 2017 film It was born in 1990, the year the original mini-series came out.
5. A fishing-rod and pulley were used to move the balloon outside of Beverly’s house.
6. David Alan Grier was originally considered for the role of Mike.
7. John Ritter kept one of the playing cards of Pennywise after filming.
8. The voice from the drain comes from a boy named,Matthew O’Connor which was the same name as the Supervising Producer. Another voice is from a girl named Vicky Burrows which is the name of the casting director.
9. A night guard in the aslyum’s name is Koontz, which references Stephen King’s rival Dean R. Koontz.
10. The clown’s arch nemesis is a turtle who created the universe in the novel.
