This ‘BvS’ Fan Theory Connects The Film To ‘Suicide Squad’ In The Most Mind-Blowing Way

Despite the mixed reviews across the board for Zack Snyder‘s mega superhero flick Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is killing it at the box office. Admittedly, there are some clunky bits that don’t quite come together, but overall, the film delivers some fun stuff to fans including Ben Affleck‘s Batman, Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman, and the introduction of the Justice League characters. However, perhaps one of the most intriguing things about the film is an insane fan theory that connects BvS to the upcoming Suicide Squad.  (****Warning JUICY BvS spoilers ahead****)

The theory, which was first seen on Reddit, is that Jared Leto‘s Joker is Jason Todd, aka Batman’s second Robin. If you’re an avid DC comic fan, then you know that when Batman’s original Robin, Dick Grayson became Nightwing, DC created Jason Todd. However, Todd was so wildly unpopular with fans that DC creators had the Joker beat him to death. In the comics, Todd comes back as an anti-hero called Red Hood and Batman never got over his guilt surrounding the incident. But….what if that actually never happened?!

In the trailers for both Suicide Squad and BvS, Jared Leto’s Joker looks a lot younger than Affleck’s Batman, which would make sense if he was the “second” Robin. We know from BvS that Affleck’s Bruce Wayne has been Batman for 20 years or so. He even tells Alfred that after all of this time he doesn’t know anyone who has “stayed good.” This is obviously a reference to himself, but it could also be a reference for Jason Todd turning into The Joker.

Affleck’s Batman is war weary and super cynical. He’s not afraid of killing, and he does so without remorse in the film. He seems to just wants to get through the whole ordeal and be done with it. However, there is still some humanity left in him (ie: When he helps Superman save his mother). Therefore, if Jason Todd really is the Joker, Batman might feel he has a chance at redemption, which is why he hasn’t tried to kill him.

In BvS, the costume on display in the Batcave that’s riddled with graffiti is The Joker’s (Jason’s) Robin costume. The bullet holes in the suit, also match the ones that Leto’s Joker sports on his body. BluntAsFk on Reddit speculates that Todd was shot and then fell into a vat of chemicals, effectively turning him into The Joker.

There is also the issue of the Wayne manor in BvS. In the film, the estate is abandoned and in disrepair which is strange because the Batcave has always been connected to the manor in some way. However, if that were still the case, Jason Todd as The Joker would always know where to find Bruce. The theory is then that The Joker aka Jason Todd destroyed the manor, and Bruce Wayne had to find another location to build his cave.

Do you buy into this insane theory? We think it has a ton of merit. Either way, we’ll find out more when Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2o16.
