This ‘Home Alone 2: Lost In New York’ Fan Theory Is Beyond Devastating

If you’re like us, then you’ve probably watched Home Alone and its sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York more times than you can count during this holiday season. However, while viewing the Big Apple based film, you probably missed a majorly devastating plot point. According to Reddit user GoesOff_On_Tangent the only two trustworthy adults in Kevin’s life, Mr. Duncan the toy store owner and the Central Park pigeon lady had a tragic romance.

We know that the Central Park pigeon lady once had a home and job. We also know that she wanted to start a family, but the man she was in love with fell out of love with her. Could that man have been Mr. Ducan? We know that Mr. Ducan is kind and loves children because he indulges Kevin’s precociousness and he donates all of his Christmas Eve revenue to the children’s hospital. But what if the pair had a deeper connection?

GoesOff_On_Tagent suggests that these two were once a couple and the reason they ended things was because they were unable to have children. After all, if you notice Mr. Duncan is wearing a wedding ring but he doesn’t mention children of his own and he also seems really lonely.  After all, Mr. Duncan gives Kevin those two turtle doves and tells him to give one to someone he loves.

GoesOff_On_Tagent says, “Perhaps Mr. Duncan felt guilt about not staying friends with Pigeon Lady even if their romance fell apart because he was too busy going about his life. The fact that he specifically suggests a bird that Kevin takes though on a Freudian level can mean that he’s had birds on his mind and that his former lover, Pigeon Lady, was a big fan of birds back in the day. He still remembers her, but he feels guilty that he didn’t make an effort to be friends with her, even after things fell apart, or helping her when she became a recluse.”
