This Is What Deadpool Almost Looked Like…

Ryan Reynolds Deadpool is so popular that even Blake Lively can’t seem to escape watching those mortify sex scenes playing on every flight she takes (apparently Deadpool is very popular on airplane TVs)! That sexy, red-suited Ryan Reynolds you know may have looked a little different if Deadpool was released a couple of years earlier.

Recently, concept art from a scrapped 2013 Deadpool film was released showing the red-suited hero in a clunkier, less streamlined outfit. The design was created by Kelton Cram for Kick Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow. The idea behind this version of Deadpool is that Wade Wilson would have made the costume out of things he could find himself like old motorcycle gear. The suit would start with a more self-made look and gradually, as the film goes on, evolve into a more traditional, streamlined superhero suit.

In addition to Deadpool’s pieced-together suit, Cram also created a version of Random, who would have been part of the Marauders group in the movie and one of the film’s main antagonists. Because Wadlow wanted Random to be “huge,” Cram used Stone Cold Steve Austin as inspiration behind the character’s concept sketch. To be clear, Steve Austin wasn’t ever associated with the film, he’s just really cool.

Personally, we think both Deadpools work. Ryan Reynolds’ version is definitely more traditional, but Cram’s take on a kind of rag tag, do-it-yourself superhero is really cool too.
