Wes Anderson is a fantastic filmmaker, and you can tell right away if it’s a Wes Anderson film.
The first clip of ‘Isle of Dogs’ is out and it hits all those elements that make it a Wes Anderson film in 1:41. First off is the music, the horn mixed with drums feels like it could be ripped from any of his films. Secondly, Anderson loves to center his shots, to make whatever you are looking at is to be in the exact center. Third, the color palate is very Wes. that is all things we get without even hearing a voice.
The first voice is that of Edward Norton who has become a mainstay in Anderson films, along with Bill Murray and Jeff Goldblum. The dogs discuss if they should fight over the bag, which is something that can only happen in an Anderson film. The Norton dog Rex then lists off all of the items in the bag with a description, and somehow even the maggots feel like they belong in an Anderson film.
All in all, this is a Wes Anderson film, and if you’re a fan of his, you should love this film, and if you’re not, why not?
‘Isle of Dogs’ comes out March 23, 2018.
