It’s easy to get lost in the vortex that is Netflix, what with all their amazing options, and even with that cool new system (Max) that helps you pick a movie based on your mood and interests. But sometimes you just want to keep it simple, so we’re here to help. Whatever you’re interest, whether you think you like foreign films or not, these three French pictures are absolute must-sees. Remember, the French pretty much invented the movies– we can totally trust them

Monsieur Lazhar

Nominated for an Academy Award, Monsieur Lazhar tells the powerful story of a new teacher who arrives at a Canadian school, not fully aware of the tragedy that recently rocked the community. With a compelling plot and beautiful cinematography, this latest feature from the brilliant Philippe Falardeau should not be missed.

The Intouchables 

 Nominated for a Golden Globe and heralded by critics the world over, The Intouchables is based on the true story of a wealthy quadriplegic man who hires a young, street kid to be his caregiver. Both humorous and heart-warming, expect to fall in love with all of the characters in this one.

17 Girls

Nominated for a César Award, 17 Girls is a re-telling of the shocking true story of a group of high school friends who made a secret pact to get pregnant together. Although this actually happened in Massachusetts in 2008, the French setting provides a different and fascinating backdrop to this plot.
