Tightrope walker Henri Rechatin dies

Legendary French tightrope walker Henri Rechatin has died at the age of 82. The stuntman passed away in his native France on Friday (27Dec13), according to the Mayor of Saint-Etienne, Maurice Vincent, although he failed to share further details about his death.
Rechatin, known simply as Henry’s, was renowned for his balancing acts in the Grand Canyon and the Alps, where he once walked along the cable car wires to the summit of Aiguille du Midi.
However, he will perhaps be best remembered for his successful walk across the Niagara Falls in 1975, when he balanced on a platform attached to a motorcycle that a friend rode across the cable over the Whirlpool Rapids. The feat was made all the more impressive by the fact that he completed the stunt while his wife dangled from a pole he carried over his shoulders.
