Well, one of the issues delaying the developing remake of A Star Is Born has been solved: Beyonce had her baby. But there has still been the little issue of “no male lead” keeping Clint Eastwood’s adaptation of the 1937/1954/1976 Hollywood classic. But headway is being made, and with a very big name fueling the engines: Tom Cruise is apparently being sought as the lead male in Eastwood’s project.
Warner Bros. has approached Cruise with the opportunity, which, reportedly, was met with some interest, likely due to the chance to work with director Eastwood. Cruise has a good relationship with the studio, and is starring in their developing project We Mortals Are (formerly All You Need Is Kill) presently.
An iconic project like that of A Star Is Born warrants a big, celebrated name like Cruise, whose rock star role in the upcoming Rock of Ages might have pegged him as perfect for the movie star character in Eastwood’s remake. Cruise hasn’t worked with Eastwood prior, but did have a role in one of potential costar Beyonce’s few acting experiences: Austin Powers in Goldmember. However, they’d likely have some real screen time together in this project.
Christian Bale was also formerly mentioned as a candidate for the role.
