Jack ReacherOne day after the tragic shooting inside an elementary school, Paramount Pictures has announced it will be postponing the Jack Reacher premiere — which opens with a sniper randomly shooting in a public place — “out of respect for the families of the victims whose lives were senselessly taken.”

The new Tom Cruise thriller — which is based on the books by Lee Child — was set to hold its world premiere in Philadelphia, the city where most of the PG-13 flick was filmed. The movie is scheduled to open next weekend on Dec. 21, and should bring in big numbers at the box office. Though it is still unclear whether or not studios will be withholding the weekend figures — similar to what they did after the Dark Knight Rises shooting, which took place inside a Colorado theater only six months ago.

Also making changes to its line-up is the Syfy Channel who opted to drop an upcoming episode of its original series Haven, which “contained scenes of fictitious violence in a high school.” In a statement released to Hollywood.com, the network went on to say “no decision has been made as to when the episode will air.”
