Toronto Sensation ‘The Raid’ to Be Remade

7841810.jpgThe Indonesian action film The Raid became the toast of the Toronto International Film Festival after it screened on September 9 as part of the fest’s Midnight Madness program. Given the enthusiastic reception, it seemed inevitable that some enterprising studio shingle would target the film for the remake treatment. THR revealed today that Sony Screen Gems, the studio behind such films as Straw Dogs, Friends With Benefits, and Priest, has stepped up to the plate.

Written and directed by Gareth Evans, a Welshman who became immersed in Indonesia’s film scene by way of his Indonesian wife, The Raid centers on a SWAT team that must fight its way out of an apartment complex populated by junkies, murderers, and assorted other unpleasant people.
