Toxic mold has hold on McMahon

If you didn’t already know this, apparently toxic mold infestation is a very real problem–and it has former NBC Tonight Show host Johnny Carson‘s sidekick Ed McMahon all in a tizzy.

McMahon filed a lawsuit Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming his home insurance company, American Equity Insurance Co., a unit of Citigroup Inc., neglected to properly repair a broken pipe in his home, thus allowing a poisonous mold known as stachybotrus chartarum to grow and infect his family.

This mold strain, which has just been recently recognized as a serious phenomenon, can cause respiratory tract illnesses and even death. McMahon claims the mold killed his dog, Muffin. Those bastards!

Last July, a pipe burst in the entertainer’s Coldwater Canyon home in Los Angeles, causing his den to be flooded. When he filed a claim with his insurance company, the contractors, who were sent to clean up the damage, painted over visible mold and failed to provide environmental reports to the McMahons about the levels of mold infestation. The mold spread throughout the house, concentrating in the main bedroom.

“What started out as a simple plumbing leak ended up a horrific nightmare only Stephen King could write about,” McMahon‘s lawyer Allan Browne told Reuters.

McMahon is seeking $20 million in damages.
