So apparently no one really knows what’s happening with Columbia Pictures Uncharted video-game adaptation except for game director Justin Richmond, the man behind the highly anticipated Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
In a recent press event, he told Joystiq.com that nothing regarding the film — including the casting of Nathan Drake — is confirmed. That means Mark Wahlberg, who spoke about working with filmmaker David O. Russell on the film a month ago, is possibly not yet locked into the starring role. Richmond also denied reports that O. Russell was making the film with a “family dynamic” that would call for the likes of Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci to sign up.
“First of all, all that stuff was denied by David O. Russell,” the game director said. “He actually called us up and was like, ‘I don’t know what these guys are talking about.’
So, bottom line? Wahlberg is far from being confirmed as Nathan Drake, which means that Nathan Fillion still has a chance at the role — and we all know that’s what’s most important.
