Update: New Nostalgic ‘Super 8′ Poster Is Fan-made, But Still Kind of Amazing

Update: It turns out Paramount had nothing to do with this genius poster, though I bet they wish they did. It’s a fan-made poster and I’m sure I’m not the only hoping it will help me convince my friends to see Super 8 with me this weekend, despite its origins.

Earlier: Paramount is really banking on our nostalgia for Super 8’s release this weekend, and if you weren’t sold before, I bet you will be now. We keep comparing the flick to The Goonies and E.T. and Close Encounters, and the trailer has certainly helped those notions along. Now, with this poster that’s a few parts Goonies, a bit of ET and maybe even a touch of Star Wars, the studio is making a full assault on our love of classic science fiction, and more specifically classic Steven Spielberg. And now, since you’ve probably skipped past the text anyway, here’s the fairly amazing new poster for J.J. Abrams’ Super 8.

Celebrity Editor Kelsea Stahler was born in a pile of dirt. Okay, she was actually born in an old Naval hospital in San Diego, which then became a pile of dirt and remained as such for a number of years before becoming a parking lot perfectly sized for circus tents, and finally a museum. She eventually left San Diego to attend New York University, where she studied Journalism and English literature — two less-than profitable liberal arts degrees about which guidance counselors warned her. Against all odds, she now resides in Brooklyn, where she fights the constant fear that the locals will soon discover she isn’t quite cool enough to live there, and makes a living writing absurd, pop culture features about Batman, zombies, vampires, funny people, and Ron Swanson.
