Volcano blast almost cost Bush new TV role

The One Tree Hill star was cast in the family sitcom, about a father whose life is disrupted when his adult children move back home.

But she feared she would be fired from the job after struggling to catch a flight from Germany, where she was filming a movie, to return to Los Angeles in time to shoot the pilot episode. Flights across the whole of Europe were grounded for five days due to thick ash clouds pumped into the air by the Eyjafjallajokull volcano blast.

Bush managed to make it back just in time – but only after trekking through five different countries to find an L.A.-bound flight.

She says, “I went to shoot a film in Europe. I was in Germany. And then the volcano in Iceland erupted and I got stuck. And I basically sent all my luggage to (courier service) FedEx, and said send it whenever, and then I went to five countries and finally I managed to get back to Los Angeles by going to Israel and then flying home.

“But luckily the day after I got back I filmed a pilot for a new television show. I was worried I would be the only person alive who could say I lost a job due to an ash cloud! But I made it home and shot the pilot, so it’s been a crazy two weeks!”
