Queen at Live Aid was one of the most iconic performances of all time.
Sure there were other performances, but nothing beat Queen’s. For 20 minutes they owned the stage, and what’s even better is there is actual footage from the show. For ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Rami Malek and crew knew there was only way to really do the Live Aid performance. Not chopped up like most movies would do, but to really perform the entire 20-minute set. As Joe Mazzello who played John Deacon puts it, the set builds, and to stop and stop would lose energy, not only from the “band” but the extras as well. Luckily for us, they shot the entire performance, and the full recreation will be in the release of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
You don’t win a Golden Globe (and maybe more) for phoning in a performance.
‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ releases on Digital and Blu-ray February 12, 2019.
