It’s astounding how quickly rumors go viral — because of course everything you read on the Internet true.
Recently, social media was amidst with rumors of a lesbian Brokeback Mountain remake starring two of our faves — Emma Watson and Margot Robbie. Robbie was set to take on Heath Ledger’s role and Watson was going to tackle Jake Gyllenhaal’s character. People were mostly ecstatic.

Of course, a couple people weren’t very pleased.
Why cant woman have new stories? It feels like women dominated films are all just remakes of films about men?! #brokeback2 #dissapointed

Sadly, As amazing as a lesbian Brokeback Mountain remake would be, it’s just not happening (even if the topic managed to trend on Facebook).
The news of a lesbian-themed remake originally broke on a website called The Portly Gazelle, proving that people will fall for anything if the website looks important enough. If the name didn’t sound enough like a publication dedicated to satire, it says so in the fine print at the very bottom. Does anyone fact check anymore?
The articled claimed that 12 years after Brokeback Mountain was originally released, Margot Robbie and Emma Watson have signed on to star in a lesbian remake that was set to hit theaters in 2017. The website even quoted Robbie as saying, “As an Australian actor, this obviously means a lot to me. I hope to do the [sic] Heath Ledgers’ role justice.” It’s an obvious nod to her involvement in Suicide Squad, which saw Jared Leto take on Ledger’s complicated role as the Joker.
Besides, as College Humor pointed out in a 2012 skit, would a lesbian Brokeback Mountain even have the same effect? Probably not, especially because Margot Robbie and Emma Watson making out is just about every teenage boy’s dream. Check out the poignant skit below.
