Witchcraft shop boss explains himself after Harry Potter fan ban drama

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has prompted the owner of a U.K. witchcraft shop to rethink comments he made suggesting he was banning the sale of wands to fans of her books.
Richard Carter, who owns Huddersfield’s Mystical Moments, reportedly told the local media he was refusing to sell his “spiritual tools” to Potter fans, insisting his wands aren’t toys.
He was quoted as saying, “If I had someone come in wanting a wand just because they liked Harry Potter I would not sell them one, no matter how much they were offering.”
Rowling learned of his stance and took to Twitter on Sunday (14Aug16) to bash him, while linking to an article about his store. She wrote: “Oh yeah? Well I don’t think they’re real wands.”
Carter seems to have had second thoughts about his reported comments, telling the Huddersfield Daily Examiner his comments had been taken out of context.
“I said that if Harry Potter fans wanted a wand they should go on eBay because what they’re basically after is a toy,” he said after Rowling’s response, “but I have not banned them (fans) from the shop. I have nothing against Harry Potter and actually liked the films.”
“The wands I make, though, whether you believe it or not, are real and spiritual,” he added. “If a Harry Potter fan came to the shop, whether they would be able to buy a wand would depend on why they want one. If for a toy, then no, but if they had watched Harry Potter and been inspired to start their own spiritual journey, then yes.”
