Wolf Alice and Foals triumph at 2016 NME Awards

British rockers Wolf Alice, Foals, and The Maccabees were among the big winners at the 2016 NME Awards in London on Wednesday night (17Feb16).
Wolf Alice entered the O2 Academy Brixton event with six nominations, and walked away with double honours for Best Live Band and Best Track for Giant Peach.
Meanwhile, show openers Foals scored the Best Album honour for their 2015 release What Went Down, The Maccabees were named Best British Band, and Boom Clap singer Charli XCX claimed the Best British Solo Artist accolade.
Pete Doherty’s reunited band The Libertines, which also started the night with six nods, only emerged victorious in one category, Music Moment of the Year, for their secret set at the Glastonbury festival in June (15).
Doherty was not present to accept the award, which was collected instead by co-frontman Carl Barat and bassist Jon Hassall.
“Thank you very much for this and thanks to Glastonbury for putting us on,” Hassall told the crowd, before Barat added, “Thanks so much. It has been such a year for us.”
Other winners included Rat Boy (Best New Artist), Taylor Swift (Best International Solo Artist), and Coldplay, who landed the Godlike Genius award.
Performances during the prizegiving came from the likes of The Maccabees, Rat Boy, and Bring Me The Horizon, whose singer, Oli Sykes, caused a mess as he jumped on Coldplay’s table during their set, much to the Viva La Vida hitmakers’ bemusement.
