Woodstock 50 appeal for New York venue denied for fourth time

The Woodstock 50th anniversary festival is looking increasingly unlikely to go ahead, after organisers were denied their appeal for a venue permit for a fourth time.
Planning officials in the town of Vernon, New York state, rejected the application to hold the big gig at Vernon Downs race course once again on Monday (22Jul19), with one official deeming the proposed safety plan “worthless”, according to local paper the Poughkeepsie Journal.
The publication obtained a letter written by Town of Vernon code enforcement officer Reay Walker explaining the permit denial, in which he stated that the organisers’ so-called “Woodstock 50 Safety Plan” included a “Confidentiality Statement” which “invalidates the entire plan.”
“This disclaimer of responsibility makes the plan worthless,” Walker continued in his letter, as “The purpose of a Public Safety Plan, insofar as submitted to the Town Code Office, is to make a representation to the permitting authority that the Public Safety Plan will be followed and that its estimates are accurate.”
He also cited a lack of details on how the perimeter fencing would be built, as well as no determining where the estimated 65,000 festival goers would go at the end of each night, as reasons for the permit being denied.
The event is supposed to be staged from 16 to 18 August, with the likes of JAY-Z, Imagine Dragons and Dead & Company, The Killers, Miley Cyrus, Santana, Chance the Rapper, and Halsey, originally on the bill.
